Natural Languages

Gee, mister, you speak a lot of [natural] languages!

English

English is my native language. I grew up in New Mexico, moved to France for a year at sixteen, learned too much internet slang at a formative age, lived in London for a while, and jostled around various parts of the Midwest, meaning my personal idiolect is geographically inscrutable.

French

I started studying French academically in high school and spent a year abroad in Rennes, France when I was a junior. Iā€™m mostly still fluent.

Hebrew

I learned to read liturgical Hebrew for my Bat Mitzvah, and took one year of Modern Hebrew in my sophomore year of college. As a result, I know just enough to both mangle it and to get accused of having a French accent.

Icelandic

Yes, I speak it. Not well. I audited it at University College London, and continued my studies with a three-week language course at the University of the Westfjords in Summer 2018.
